Ah, island life. One of the biggest perks of living in Mauritius is you never get bored. Loads of people enjoy our vast variety of water sports, both amateur and professional, when they visit.

You don’t have to be an expert swimmer, diver or sailor to be able to have a blast in the water. We’ve come up with a lovely list so you can decide which water sport in Mauritius adventure is for you. Enjoy!

Traditional Water Sports

Of course you can waterski and swim in locations all over the world- but none of them have our beautiful lagoons, views or sea.

Waterskiing and Wake Boarding: You have a lot of possibilities, including a training course for beginners or going through a slalom course for professionals.

Jetskiing can give you a little more independence and freedom to explore, while surfing puts you more in touch with the waves. You can take an instruction or training course for either, if you’re a newbie. For professional surfers, Tamarin Bay is still a favorite.

For the more adventurous, you could try either windsurfing or kitesurfing– though if you are inexperienced, you do need to take some training from a licensed professional.

Boats and Beyond

Not all of the water sports require you to get completely soaked- we have a lot of boating options, too!

For those of you that prefer a calm exploration of the island, kayaking is probably perfect for you. You have the chance to discover the wonders of the lagoons in peace. Traditional sailing is another possibility, which is great for witnessing our gorgeous sunsets.

Are you a speed demon? Try sea hovering– fast, furious and super fun.

Fishermen out there, you’ll love the deep sea fishing opportunities. You can have the chance to snag yourself one of many fish: black marlins, bonitos (a sort of tuna), sharks, wahoos and even maybe a barracuda.

Diving and Unique Water Sports

We get a lot of divers that visit Mauritius just for the underwater view. You don’t have to be a professional to embrace the sea life wonders our island offers.

Diving: Mauritius is actually a great place to start diving, if you’ve never tried it before. Many places offer great instructors.

To get a completely different view of Mauritius from the air, parasailing is the way to go.

Two very cool and unique offerings in Mauritius: the Safari Submarine and the Solar Undersea Walk. The Safari Submarine can take groups below to see the wonderful underwater world; the Solar Under Sea Walk in the Grand Baie lets you have the diving experience- without the diving. It’s also for all ages, which is great for families.
